Norwegian laws and regulations from Lovdata

Search current Norwegian laws (lover) and central regulations (forskrifter) from Lovdata by words in the title or text, then fetch the table of contents or the full text of a single section such as § 3-1. A search hit shows snippets, so your agent only pays for the text it reads.

What you get

These are Lovdata's consolidated texts, not the official publication (Norsk Lovtidend), and not legal advice. Historical and repealed texts, local regulations and court decisions are not included.

Example

Search the laws for a topic:

curl "https://veldora.no/v1/laws?q=personvern%20behandlingsansvarlig&size=1"
{
  "data": [
    {
      "id": "lov/2018-06-15-38", "type": "law",
      "title": "Lov om behandling av personopplysninger (personopplysningsloven)",
      "short_title": "Personopplysningsloven – popplyl",
      "date": "2018-06-15", "ministry": "Justis- og beredskapsdepartementet",
      "last_changed": "2026-01-01", "in_force": true,
      "url": "https://lovdata.no/dokument/NL/lov/2018-06-15-38",
      "title_match": false, "section_matches": 50,
      "matches": [{ "section": "§ 4", "heading": "Behandlingsansvarlig", "snippet": "…" }]
    }
  ],
  "page": { "page": 0, "size": 1, "total": 1 },
  "meta": { "source": "lovdata", "fetched_at": "2026-10-13T05:30:00Z", "stale": false, "as_of": "2026-10-13", "license": "NLOD 2.0", "attribution": "..." }
}

Read one section:

curl https://veldora.no/v1/laws/lov/2005-06-17-62/sections/3-1
{
  "data": {
    "law": { "id": "lov/2005-06-17-62", "type": "law", "title": "...", "url": "https://lovdata.no/dokument/NL/lov/2005-06-17-62" },
    "section": { "id": "§ 3-1", "chapter": "Kapittel 3. Alminnelige krav til arbeidsmiljøet", "heading": "Systematisk helse-, miljø- og sikkerhetsarbeid", "text": "..." },
    "previous": "§ 2-6", "next": "§ 3-2"
  },
  "meta": { "source": "lovdata", "license": "NLOD 2.0", "attribution": "..." }
}

Without payment these return 402 with the price. With an x402 client such as @x402/fetch the request returns the JSON, trimmed here.

Price and MCP tools

EndpointWhat it doesMCP toolPrice
GET /v1/lawsSearch laws and regulationssearch_laws$0.01
GET /v1/laws/{id}One law with table of contentsget_law$0.005
GET /v1/laws/{id}/sections/{section}Full text of one sectionget_law_section$0.005

Per successful call, in USD, paid as USDC on Base. The MCP server is at https://veldora.no/mcp.

How payment works

Your agent sends a normal HTTP request and gets 402 Payment Required with the price. It signs a USDC authorization on Base for that amount and repeats the request, and Veldora returns the data with a receipt. There is no account or API key, and failed calls are not charged. See Pay per call and the payment section of the docs.

Questions

What is the licence of the law data?

Lovdata publishes the current laws and central regulations under NLOD 2.0 and asks users to credit it. Every response carries the notice in meta.attribution.

How fresh is the data?

The data is rebuilt every night from Lovdata's open data. meta.as_of is the date of Lovdata's data. If the data has not been loaded you get 503 and are not charged.

What happens if a call fails?

You are not charged for any response with status 400 or higher. An unknown law id gives 404 before any payment is asked for.

Do I need an API key or an account?

No. Your agent pays per call in USDC on Base with the x402 protocol.

Can my agent use this over MCP?

Yes. Connect to https://veldora.no/mcp and call search_laws, get_law or get_law_section. Listing the tools is free; each call is paid at the REST price.
